about

This track was created for the compilation release Demonology In Dante's Inferno released by Eighth Tower Records. Each track on the album embodies a different demon from Dante's Inferno, and our track explores the idea of Lucifer / Satan in the ninth circle of hell, a torturous frozen realm. A huge figure trapped in ice, he mindlessly beats his wings, causing a cold wind that continues to freeze the ice surrounding him and the other sinners.

Dante's Inferno, widely hailed as one of the great classics of Western literature, details Dante's journey through the nine circles of Hell. The voyage begins during Easter week in the year 1300, the descent through Hell starting on Good Friday. After meeting his guide, the eminent Roman poet Virgil, in a mythical dark wood, the two poets begin their descent through a baleful world of doleful shades, horrifying tortures, and unending lamentation. During their journey, Dante and Virgil meet a series of diabolical and demonic figures that characterize, in a highly expressionistic way, the various stages of the descent that will lead them to the end of the journey.

Here at Eighth Tower Records, we invited a group of musicians (Robin Storey, Raffaele Pezzella a.ka. Sonologyst, Samuel Goff, Gianluca Becuzzi, Daniel Barbiero, Cristiano Bocci, Cobi van Tonder, Mari Lino Stancati, Pär Boström, Lars Bröndum, Dead Space Chamber Music), interested to hear what those demonic (and of course allegoric) figures from the Dante's poem would inspire to them.
